FLV is a "Flash Live Video" file. It is a format that is designed for web playback, offering high rates of compression. Several products output in FLV format, including Sorenson Squeeze (The term "movie" often refers to common Flash source files (.FLA) and deployed files (.SWF) and is not synonymous with "video").

Choosing this format will generate FLV file from your video. The FLV file is actually taken straight from the source. No conversion is needed. Use this option if you want to -somehow- show the video on your own web/site.

MP4 is an abbreviated term for MPEG-4 Part 14. It may also be referred to as MPEG-4 AVC, which stands for Advanced Video Coding. As the name suggests, this is a format for working with video files and was first introduced in 1998. The MPEG refers to Motion Pictures Expert Group who is responsible for setting the industry standards regarding digital audio and video.

The MP4 is a container format, allowing a combination of audio, video, subtitles and still images to be held in the one single file. It also allows for advanced content such as 3D graphics, menus and user interactivity.

Choosing this format will generate MP4 file from your video. The MP4 file is actually taken straight from the source. Sometimes, conversion is needed because the source did not have MP4 format. Ytconv will choose 360p quality and above for your convenience.

3GP is a multimedia container format defined by the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) for use on 3G mobile phones but can also be played on some 2G and 4G phones. 3GP is a simplified version of the MPEG-4 Part 14 (MP4) container format, designed to decrease storage and bandwidth requirements in order to accommodate mobile phones. There are two different standards for this format: 3GPP for GSM-based phones (*.3GP) and 3GPP2 for CDMA-based phones (*.3G2).

The 3GP video generated is compaltible for small screen phone, such as old Nokia phone.

DivX is video format created by DivX, Inc. DivX became quite popular due to the ability to compress videos to almost 15% of the original size (i.e. 2Gb down to 700Mb). That means that a full film can be fitted into a CD. What is important, the .divx files retain much of the original quality of the DVD, sometimes the result is even indistinguishable from the source.

Compared to DVD, DivX had some shortcomings. It didn't have interactive video menus, multiple subtitles or audio tracks, chapter points and some other features of DVD. But in June 2005 DivX 6, the latest generation of DivX codecs,was released. DivX 6 can be called a full media container format that supports all above mentioned features of DVD but the files are of much less size.
